The new game from Taito's, popular Cooking Mama franchise, follow the same basic formula gameplay of taking everyday activities and translating them into bite-sized, accessible gaming experiences. In Cooking Mama, where players are challenged to prepare meals in step-by-step, with mini-games for stages of food preparation and cooking that involved DS stylus movements. Once completed, the game goes on to rate your score performance.
In Gardening Mama, the game seems to work more or less the same way, except, as you might have guessed after reading the title, you're gardening. The game challenges players to do things like plowing troughs in fields, adding seeds, adding in dirt overtop and, to finish it off, patting everything down.
In another sequence, players had to drop plant bulbs into holes in the ground crated with a gardening tool. To manipulate the tool, players had to use the stylus to trace a pattern to get it into the ground, then move the stylus back and forth to create a big enough hole to accommodate the bulb. Then it's time to water the plant, something accomplished by using the stylus to tilt a watering can to add just the right amount of water to the soil.
In another mini-game in Gardening Mama, players had to dig plants out of the ground, using the stylus to control a shovel and dig into the soil from four directions. A different mini-game required us to tap spots on a bed of soil as a hand moved over, dropping seeds into specific places. It seemed like Cooking Mama fans will likely enjoy and fun.
