(Preview game X360) Halo Wars

Setting in 20 years after Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo Wars themed Real-time Strategy feature the campaign of the UNSC ship of the line Spirit of Fire.

Halo Wars will placing you in charge of entire battalions of UNSC regulars as well as a host of vehicles. During our play session, Ensemble Studios' pedigree shone brightly (these are the same developers that brought PC players the Age of Empires series) in what felt like a unique approach to balancing asymmetrical units with decidedly solid gameplay mechanics.

Halo Wars' controls function similar to other console RTS titles, Tom Clancy's EndWar (with the exception of the voice-controlled), but Halo Wars seems to be succeeding where others have run into trouble. Camera position, is controlled with the left and right analog sticks with the d-pad on Xbox360 subbing in for quickly moving to your home base (press left) or cycling through units (press down).

The Units can be selected by pressing the A button on an individual unit or holding the button down to engage a selects any units. Meanwhile, all units can be selected by pressing the left bumper and all local on-screen units can be selected with the right bumper. Units can be directed to move or attack by pressing the X button and most units can use researchable secondary attacks with the Y button.

Like most RTS games, Halo Wars feature a system of resource gathering to provide raw materials for building units, structures, and progressing along the tech tree. There are two ways to acquire basic resource materials: finding and collecting them in the environment or building supply depots at your base.

In addition, between all factions in this game is balanced, the UNSC human forces and the Covenant alien army. While both come with a cadre of land and air vehicles and infantry units, their individual units function differently, with varying capabilities and specialties.

And unit of AI is looking very good, and any units that have been left forgotten will have no issues will be defending themselves if necessary as they respond appropriately to nearby threats... an excellent feature for absent-minded commanders. It seem Halo Wars is really good RTS in the console platform. (source : gamespy.com)
